To everyone who listened to our LBA live with the lovely Drew - thank you! We discussed the ratification of the Istanbul Convention in our chat, and promised you a letter template to contact your MP. Please find it below! And a link to find your MP, just here https://members.parliament.uk/members/commons?fbclid=IwAR0bs4dpaDCaJNliGjZA1BawCtvG1mq6O5_IFR2NZAoljdDUNFVMTx9cVC0
Dear (MPs name here),
I am writing to you as a member of your constituency, on the issue of the UK's ratification of the Istanbul Convention. I am requesting that you push this issue in parliament, on behalf of the women in your constituency who rely on you to make their voices heard - currently women in this country lack the protections and recourse necessary to keep them safe from domestic abuse. In addition to this, 57% of women in prisons are victims of past domestic abuse, and women in prisons and living in shelters cannot currently vote. The current status of funding towards shelters in this country leaves swathes of women without protection or a place to stay in attempting to leave an abusive home.
So please, as someone with a voice in the halls of power in this country, please raise and push for out ratification of the convention, and for the governments support and protection of women in this country.
Thank you (your name here, if you want to)
